My first encounter with Gary’s online persona was about a year ago through one of his web 2.0 speeches. I immediately noticed his energy on stage; he is an amazing storyteller. Here is a link to that speech. I have probably watched this speech five different times. It’s like a red bull of motivation all in one video.
Check it out. Gary V\’s Web 2.0 Speech Be careful, there is some foul language in this video. I have been told he’s working on it.
After watching this video for the first time, I had to check out the rest of his work. He has a great video blog at Wine Library TV and garyvaynerchuk.com. He is also super active on Facebook and absolutely crushes it on Twitter. Wine, the NY Jets and people are his self-proclaimed passions. But the passion that flies slightly under the radar, and possibly one of his most valuable, is his passion for business development.
People have talked up his book Crush It a lot but it deserves all of the credit that it has been getting. One of the things that was important when writing this book was to make it short. He was quoted as saying that he hoped the book could be read on a connecting flight from NYC to Dallas or LA. True to his word, I started and finished it while flying from Detroit to Baltimore and back. Score points for conciseness. That being said, I was glued to the book as soon as I started it and could only put it down to collect luggage before finishing it.
I don’t want to give away any of the wisdom in the book, you can read it for yourself. One thing that I have learned from reading Gary’s book is that he is a force to be reckoned with on internet media and traditional media as well. I have no doubt that we will be talking about Gary as a media innovator and business development genius ten years from now.
Verdict: I highly recommend this book for anyone who uses the Internet and wants to enjoy the hours between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm for the rest of their life.
